Association of Geographic Information Users (USIG)

USIG is the Portuguese Association of the Users of Geographic Information. It’s a non-profit private organisation founded in 1991. The objectives of USIG are to reunite and organise the users and producers of GI and the distributers of GIS and related technologies, aiming at the exchange of information. USIG finds its members in public institutions and private enterprises, universities, municipalities and individuals. The main Portuguese stakeholders are members of USIG. Currently, the association has more than 400 institutional and individual members. Along its 15 years of work, USIG was able to consolidate its positions as one of the main stakeholders in the area of GI and GIS in Portugal. Its main activity has been the organisation of the Users Conference of Geographic Information that takes place every 2 years. USIG also organised 2 worldwide events (GIS Planet’98 and GIS Planet’05) and has also been promoting more focused events like technical workshops, training courses and exhibitions.
